Abstract

PEREZ GUTIERREZ, Rosabell et al. Renewable energy sources in three rural communities of Cuba. Limits and opportunities. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2021, vol.13, n.6, pp. 109-122.  Epub Dec 10, 2021. ISSN 2218-3620.

In Cuba, the sustainable management of renewable energy sources (FRE) shows a privileged place from the political and public agendas, with concrete impacts on rural communities that are difficult to access. The prioritization of priorities for the management of RES at the micro level (local / community) is an issue that acquires relevance to the extent that actors and artifacts dialogue and are co-constructed in the decision-making processes. The theoretical-practical disconnection, the disarticulation in local management processes and the inadequacy of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) are determining factors of the article aimed at: Identifying limits and opportunities for the participatory development of RES in three rural communities of the central-western region of Cuba. Participant observation, document analysis, surveys, interviews and participatory dynamics constitute methodological supports for the proposed study based on the principles of popular education. Based on the analysis of three communities and their 152 families, the results obtained allow us to identify tensions, successes and multiple lessons in the effort to modify the energy matrix under an inclusive and emancipatory social order.

Keywords : Limits; opportunities; participatory development; renewable energy sources; rural communities.
