Abstract

CRUZ LLERENA, Arletis; PEREZ ONES, Osney; ZUMALACARREGUI DE CARDENAS, Lourdes  and  PEREZ DE LOS RIOS, José Luis. Energy integration of the concentrated stillage incineration and electricity generation process. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2021, vol.13, n.6, pp. 286-294.  Epub Dec 10, 2021. ISSN 2218-3620.

The purpose of this work is to improve energy efficiency of a Cuban distillery using the network optimal design of the heat exchangers included in the concentrated stillage incineration and electricity generation stage. Pinch analysis was used as a process integration tool. Aspen Energy Analyzer software was used for the integration of the simulation model obtained for the studied process. For the construction of the composite curves and the large composite curve, a ΔTmin of 10 oC was selected. The utilities were found to satisfy the necessities of the system with a minimum heating requirement of 9.977∙105 kJ/h. Two cases were studied with two designs of the heat network. Design 1-1 was selected as the most favorable with a total cost of 57,802 USD/year, 30.3% lower than the base case. The selected design is economically advantageous, a NPV of 1,288,476 USD, IRR of 25.4%, PRC of 1.8 years, PRCD of 2.7 years, RSI of 56.2 was obtained.
