Abstract
BOJORQUE, Eliana; LOPEZ, Tomás; PERE, Jesús and BRAZZERO, Mario. The music festival in Cuenca: aesthetics, audiences and public space. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2021, vol.13, n.6, pp. 471-481. Epub Dec 10, 2021. ISSN 2218-3620.
This document investigates the social, cultural and urban impact of the “Music Festival” in Cuenca, a Unesco heritage city located in an inter-Andean valley at the south of Ecuador. This public, massive and musical event articulates different subgenres of rock, is sponsored by Cuenca French Alliance and it has been institutionalized as a city event for almost 25 years. In the last edition, the event had the participation of more than 25,000 attendees and located its platforms around all of them privileged touristic areas. The young attendees, heirs of a social class-based structure, overcome their social borders to generate spaces for dialogue and identification based on their common musical taste, the aesthetic and emotional experience of the city, and the appropriation of recreational public space.
