Abstract

Due to the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, which originated in the city of Wuhan-China in December 2019, which has affected every country on the planet, a study was carried out in order to scientifically substantiate the efficacy of the drug known as ivermectin. Bibliographic reviews from scientific journals and other specialized publications were used. In the presence of COVID-19, studies are started by scientists in their quest to find a cure for this virus, which led to the use of several drugs testing their effectiveness, including Ivermectin, initially for veterinary use and later tested in recommended for the treatment of parasitic diseases such as onchocerciasis, strongyloidiasis, human scabies (scabies). During this time of the pandemic it was used in patients with a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19, studies were carried out in animals, humans and in vitro where it was shown in some studies analyzed by RT-PCR that the RNA replication of SARS-CoV-2 at 24 to 48 hours there was a 93% reduction in viral load, other authors report not having a result based on scientific evidence of its efficacy, however it is still used today in many countries and it is urged that research regarding the drug effectiveness with promising hopes.
