Abstract
SEGURA TERRONES, Luis Alberto; SIGUENZA ABANTO, Robert Wilfredo; SOLAR JARA, Miguel Ángel and ZAMORA MONDRAGON, Jesús Elmer. Effect of the use of recycled glass on concrete design. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2022, vol.14, n.1, pp. 179-192. Epub Feb 10, 2022. ISSN 2218-3620.
The use of alternative materials in the production of concrete is being studied by several organizations and universities worldwide with the aim of reducing the use of non-renewable raw materials used in these productions and, at the same time, to stimulate the use of recycled materials and products as a criterion of sustainability. In this research, an analysis of the effects of the use of recycled glass in concrete design is carried out. For this purpose, a sample of 50 specimens of concrete prepared with different percentages of recycled glass aggregate, which has been mechanically activated by grinding process to a particle size close to the size of the cement particle, is analyzed. The results obtained show that particulate recycled glass has been able to satisfactorily substitute aggregate in percentages of 25 and 50 % in concrete mixtures. Therefore, it can be affirmed that recycled glass can substitute aggregates, obtaining a new material from waste, which alleviates the management of solid waste in the locality, and decreases the cost of concrete.
