Pain, a common problem in dentistry, is considered a symptom; and forces to look for its origin to correct it. The patient may experience pain caused by an abscess, periodontal disease, orthodontic appliances, poorly fitting dentures, or other diseases of the oral soft or hard tissues. To achieve pain relief there are several pharmacological groups: such as opioids, analgesics, antipyretics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and pain adjuvants. The present work has as main objective: To describe the most relevant pharmacotherapeutic aspects that characterize the drugs used in the treatment of dental pain. For this, a total of 35 bibliographic sources were consulted. It was concluded that the most used drugs are antipyretic and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory analgesics such as ibuprofen, naproxen, diclofenac and paracetamol.

Keywords : Dental pain; Opioids; Non-Steroidal Antipyretic and Anti-inflammatory Analgesics.
