Abstract
DUFFUS SCOTT, Alejandro; IBARRA HERNANDEZ, Eusebio Vladimir; CRUZ CRESPO, Amado and FERNANDEZ FUENTES, Rafael. Metalworking considerations for failure prevention in a chemical process industry investment. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2022, vol.14, n.3, pp. 331-340. Epub June 30, 2022. ISSN 2218-3620.
In the present work, the metal-mechanical considerations for the prevention of failures in an investment in the chemical process industry are addressed. It starts from the function of failure analysis to establish the criteria to be applied in the design, manufacture, assembly and service. The main degradation phenomena that act in chemical process plant facilities and the fundamental materials for proper performance preventing failures are related. An inspection system is proposed by means of non-destructive tests and with the application of complementary tests with a view to the timely detection of defects before, during and after assembly. It is concluded that, from the metal-mechanical point of view, to guarantee resistance, reliability and durability in chemical process plants, failure analysis criteria must be applied, combined with the selection of materials based on degradation phenomena. and with the application of an adequate inspection system.
