Abstract

An investigative work was carried out that from a science-technology and society perspective, the states of malnutrition in patients admitted to critical care units were analyzed, it was considered that as a consequence of the division of labor in physical and intellectual and the subsequent development of the productive forces, productivity and the development of science and technology, more food, nutrients and technologies were generated for their administration to the patient, which in the hands of doctors and intensivist nurses constitute valuable means to face a problem of great magnitude and many complexities. Scientific-technical development has decisively influenced the knowledge that exists today about food, nutritional evaluation, caloric calculations, nutrients, genesis and development of pharmaceutical formulas for enteral and parenteral nutrition that help to solve nutritional problems and stop the complications that among other aspects include: reducing ventilation times, stay, healing delays and infections and at the same time requires ethical behavior to achieve the objectives and vision we have: return the patient in optimal health that guarantees their full incorporation family, workplace and society.
