Abstract

JIMENEZ RAMOS, Antonio; PUERTA FERNANDEZ, Juan Francisco; GOMEZ SARDUY, Julio Rafael  and  JIMENEZ SANTANA, Yoelbis. Cooling for lower CO2 emissions to the environment in plastic pipe extrusion. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2022, vol.14, n.3, pp. 574-588.  Epub June 30, 2022. ISSN 2218-3620.

The objective of the research is to calculate a necessary cooling time to achieve lower CO2 emissions to the environment in the extrusion of plastic pipes, according to the individual behavior of three selected properties of the raw material, specific heat, (cp.), Density, (ρ) and thermal conductivity (k), for various assortments according to a desired temperature on the interior and exterior surface. The calculation methodology is carried out by means of an algorithm, which uses mathematical models and as a tool for its solution, the Wolfram Mathematica 11.0 software and the Startgraphics Centurion XV software. The results are obtained through practical, theoretical and experimental studies. For the work, lines of extruder machines of various flows, industrial thermometers SIKA-Matec measurement and Ss 304 and multifunctional ultrasonic thickness meters PCE-TG 100 from 0.8 mm to 225 mm ranges were used. For properties, specific heat and density, the time required decreases as they decrease in magnitude, as do the indices of energy consumption and CO2 emissions, taking into account that the use of the energy generally used for this production is the electrical one, existing an increase of product in general, the thermal conductivity is the opposite to these behaviors.

Keywords : Necessary cooling time; CO2 emissions; extrusion of plastic pipes; thermophysical properties.
