Abstract

MENDEZ URRESTA, Edgar Marcelo et al. Practice of physical activity: barriers to exercise in university teachers in time of pandemic/confinement. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2022, vol.14, n.3, pp. 724-732.  Epub June 30, 2022. ISSN 2218-3620.

The practice of Physical Activity (PA) offers valuable benefits for health and well-being, specifically in university teachers, who have a high stress load and are prone to a sedentary lifestyle, therefore, to chronic non-communicable diseases. The objective of this paper is to explain the current state of physical-sports practice in teachers and the barriers that influence it. Two internationally endorsed instruments were used, the IPAQ that measures the PA index and the Self-report of Barriers (ABPEF) to know the main obstacles that prevent it in teachers. The results allowed us to identify three, which are related to low and moderate PA rates. The results show that it affects men and women in general, although with a higher incidence in the latter. The study allows us to infer the need to deepen the factors that cause the low and moderate practice of PA and to look for alternatives, from the university, that minimize the identified barriers.

Keywords : Physical activity; practical exercise barriers; teachers.
