SANTILLAN MOLINA, Alberto Leonel; VINUEZA OCHOA, Nelly Valeria; BENAVIDES SALAZAR, Cristian Fernando and SANTILLAN OJEDA, Salvatore Joel. Evaluation of participation in educational activities at the Manabí 4 prison in Ecuador. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2022, vol.14, n.5, pp. 503-513. Epub Oct 30, 2022. ISSN 2218-3620.
Education in penitentiary establishments is one of the most complex scenarios in the field of education, which is why States face the challenge of implementing and consolidating the educational systems of penitentiary institutions. The objective of this research is to diagnose the motivation of the inmates of the Centro de Privación de Libertad Manabí 4 with respect to their participation in educational activities. The results of the survey processed through the Iadov technique allow us to conclude that the inmates are motivated, demonstrating that among them there is a perception that access to education is especially necessary to facilitate effective social reintegration, in addition to favoring the process of continuing studies for those who have reached some level of schooling. The main elements that limit their motivation are: sporadic offers, of poor quality and little compatible with the expectations of the inmates, no collaboration agreements have been established with educational institutions in the community, insufficient security corps available for this type of activity, overcrowding of the prison population and deficit of material resources. It is recommended that the authorities design a school system in accordance with the expectations and difficulties raised in the research.
