Various factors influence academic performance, and at the same time it is a quality indicator to measure the effectiveness of the teaching-learning process in the higher education system. This article presents the identification of factors that determine the academic performance of graduate students from an Ecuadorian university. Academic data of a total of 1783 students and the application of a form in the degree phase were systematized. As a scientific instrument, multilevel linear models were used. The results show the influence of factors such as the difference from one geographic population to another; age and gender have little influence, while being married, having previous master's studies and teaching in schools located in urban areas have a significant influence on academic performance.
