CORDOVA-ROJAS, Lizbeth Maribel et al. Academic engagement in students of pedagogical higher education when returning to face-to-face classes. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2023, vol.15, n.3, pp. 280-287. Epub June 30, 2023. ISSN 2218-3620.
The effort made by students in the development of their academic activities is considered a determining factor in their learning results. Therefore, the objective of this research was to evaluate the academic engagement of students of higher pedagogical education when they return to face-to-face classes. The approach was quantitative, the design was non-experimental and the type was cross-sectional descriptive. The academic engagement of 145 students was evaluated by applying the UWES-S Scale, an instrument with adequate levels of validity based on content and reliability. The results indicate that the level of academic engagement of 40% of the students was high, 34.5% was moderate and 25.5% was low. Regarding its dimensions, the level of dedication and absorption were also valued at a high level, while the vigor dimension was valued at a moderate level. Likewise, it was determined that the levels of academic engagement were significantly associated with the gender and age group of the students (p<0.05). Finally, it was concluded that the students of higher pedagogical education were characterized by presenting high levels of academic commitment when they returned to face-to-face classes.
