Abstract

MENDOZA CASTILLO, Rosa Arlet  and  MORENO TAPIA, Javier. Higher education as a factor that determines the access of women and men to paid work. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2023, vol.15, n.4, pp. 512-522.  Epub Aug 12, 2023. ISSN 2218-3620.

This research analyzes, based on gender studies, the relationship between higher education and the labor market insertion of women and men in the State of Hidalgo, Mexico between 2015 and 2020. It is proposed that higher education is a variable that determines the insertion of women and men into paid work, however, despite a favorable relationship between higher education and paid work, asymmetries and gender inequality in the workplace permeate, which is reflected in the salary level, type of occupation, working hours, benefits and position at work. In the assessment of the quantitative results, it is observed that during 2015 and 2020 the insertion of women with higher education into paid work is 16.5 percent and 15.5 percent, respectively, and men in the same condition access 15.5 percent in both years, although higher education is a variable that determines the entry of women and men into paid work, women should have a greater number of educational credentials to access formal jobs and insert themselves into management positions.
