Abstract

MOROTE MESCUA, Jesús Alcibíades et al. Legal norms and their effect on the environmental policies of the province of coronel portillo-pucallpa, peru. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2023, vol.15, n.4, pp. 640-646.  Epub Aug 12, 2023. ISSN 2218-3620.

Since the last century, many countries have been concerned with the conservation and preservation of the environment. Parallel to this, specialized institutions arise to mitigate pollution, in addition a group of regulations emerge with the aim of standardizing controls and mitigating pollution. This is generally due to lack of attention to the responsibilities of both regional and municipal governments, rather than the lack of means to reduce them. Fundamentally they still do not weigh the immense damage it causes to the population, in addition they lack good practices necessary to preserve the environment. Peru, specifically the Province of Coronel Portillo-Pucallpa, does not escape these concerns. The municipal dump located at kilometer 22 of the Federico Basadre Highway in the aforementioned province, is located close to hamlets where people live in extreme poverty. Many of them carry out economic activities through the recycling of waste that in the medium term cause various diseases in humans. The present study is limited to analyzing and evaluating the application of the norms that must be present in view of the need of these communities to maintain adequate levels of health, based on maintaining permissible contamination indices. The need to urge the institutions responsible for increasing their preparation in good practices and in the management and implementation of current international standards for their proper implementation is detected. This brings about improvements in the living standards of the locals through the reduction of diseases.
