Abstract

ALPIZAR SANTANA, Miriam; VELAZQUEZ ZALDIVAR, Reynaldo  and  GARCIA BAEZ, Román. The challenge of facing inequality and quality in superior education in Latin American. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2023, vol.15, n.5, pp. 10-23.  Epub Oct 10, 2023. ISSN 2218-3620.

The higher education of the future, as a social public good and universal right, faces the challenge of commitment to equity, relevance and quality for the benefit of society and the Sustainable Development Goals. The second World Conference on Higher Education calls for a debate on a roadmap that contains the main issues to be contextualized for the fulfillment of the mission of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The background, trajectories and good practices of higher education in each country must be considered in light of the realities of globalization and the necessary Latin American and Caribbean integration in a region that demands contributions of knowledge for the essential economic and social transformations. The objective of this paper is to reflect on the background and projections from the national and regional perspective that favor the quality and positioning of HEIs and their impact on development levels.

Keywords : Higher education; University; Quality; Relevance; Equity.
