Abstract
SANTOS FABELO, María del Carmen; SANCHEZ RODRIGUEZ, Irma Mayela and LOPEZ NORES, María de los Ángeles. Labour inclusion in Ciudad Juárez: realities and challenges for people with disabilities. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2023, vol.15, n.6, pp. 39-51. Epub Dec 10, 2023. ISSN 2218-3620.
Overcoming the barriers that hinder the labor inclusion of people with disabilities is a contemporary issue. The research was a first approach to the existing panorama in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico. The mixed research method was used. Seven units of analysis were formed and the findings were cross-contrasted. Official statistics were analyzed, observation, interviews and logs were used. It was possible to create a general overview of the phenomenon that shows its complexity, as well as the barriers and challenges that remain. It was found that companies with labor inclusion programs in Ciudad Juárez only cover their workforce with 0.94% of disabled people, which does not correspond to the social representation of that working-age population sector. The findings coincide with those of studies carried out in other latitudes, demonstrating that while global consensus, public policies and structures created to break down barriers and challenges are abundant, the results to date are very few. People with disabilities, with adequate training and placed in the correct workplace, can be as productive or even more productive than the rest of the population.
