Athletics, a universal sport that encompasses long-distance events, races from 5km to 42 km, which have gained in popularity during the last decade, which has generated a demand for information from coaches and athletes where the factors that affect Performance in these runners is one of the topics most studied by the scientific literature, particularly physiological factors: maximum oxygen consumption, running economy, types of muscle fibers, age, sex, fatigue and genetics. The objective of this review is to describe the physiological factors that affect athletic performance in long-distance runners.
