Abstract

TITO FERRO, Daria et al. EVALUATION OF RESIDUAL LIQUOR FROM PRECAST AND PREMIX COMPANY OF SANTIAGO DE CUBA. cen. az. [online]. 2021, vol.48, n.4, pp. 42-52.  Epub Oct 01, 2021. ISSN 2223-4861.

Introduction:

In Cuba, an example of a polluted marine ecosystem is Santiago de Cuba´s bay, which receives a considerable amount of industrial waste, including those generated by the Precast and Premix Company.

Objective:

To evaluate the composition of residual liquor from Santiago de Cuba Precast and Premix Company, based on physical-chemical parameters determination of, that constitute pollution indicators.

Materials and Methods:

Samples were taken from company residual at its final point of discharge, in a period between December 2019 and April 2020. The determined parameters were: heavy metals, pH, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5), chemical oxygen demand (COD), suspended and settleable solids, total nitrogen and total phosphate. These was selected taken on account the specifications of (NC 521, 2007), for the release of waste waters to coastal zone and marine waters, being a necessity, the fulfillment of it’s stablished limits.

Results and Discussion:

The waste water from the Prefabricated and Premixed Company contributes to the contamination of the Santiago Cuba´s bay by suspended solids.

Conclusions:

The liquid residual from the Santiago de Cuba Precast and Premix Company contributes to the contamination of the Santiago de Cuba bay due to the contribution of suspended solids, despite the fact that they do not always violate the current standard. Other evaluations of this residual liquor and greater control in compliance with the process regulations are necessary.
