Abstract
LOPEZ DAVILA, Edelbis; JIMENEZ HERNANDEZ, Janet; ROMERO ROMERO, Osvaldo and DEWULF, Jo. APPLICATION OF THE ANAEROBIC DIGESTION TECHNOLOGY TO TREAT SOLID AGROINDUSTRIAL WASTE USING PORCINE STRETCH INOCULO, IN MESOFÍLIC CONDITIONS. RTQ [online]. 2012, vol.32, n.3, pp. 274-281. ISSN 2224-6185.
The agricultural and industrial residue management through anaerobic digestion has increased due to their growing production, low costs and high carbon content. Some fermentation technologies for solids wastes have been developed, but they are too expensive for developing countries. That is why this paper consists in assessing the application of an anaerobic digestion process for treating the agricultural and industrial solid wastes, through biogas potential measured using sludge fed with pig manure as inoculum. The wastes were sugar cane straw, rice straw, corn straw, dry banana leaves, bean straw, coffee straw and sugar cane bagasse. Batch experiments in 585mL bottles were carried out under mesophilic condition (37±2ºC). Some physic-chemical parameters were determined (TSS, VSS, pH, Alkalinity, Alkalinity ratio) to process monitoring as well as the VFAs and the biogas production. The results showed a biogas production increase respect to control in all cases, with the best results for bean straw and corn straw. Low accumulation of VFAs for all wastes anaerobic treatment was obtained, except for rice straw due to their lignocelluloses compounds. The physic-chemical parameters showed the process stability for all. Finally it was showed the viability of pig manure inoculums used for this wastes anaerobic treatment start up.
