Abstract

MANALS-CUTINO, Enma M.; PENEDO-MEDINA, Margarita  and  SALAS-TORT, Dolores. Characterization of the cane bagasse like vegetable biomass. RTQ [online]. 2015, vol.35, n.2, pp. 244-255. ISSN 2224-6185.

In this work were evaluated physical and chemical properties of different classes of size of samples of bagasse cane, like part of the study of thermal decomposition of the same ones. Two samples were studied; being obtained a very varied distribution, from a fine powder until irregular particles of great size, the biggest accumulations were obtained for particles smaller than 0,5mm and up to 1mm of diameter. In this study two methods were developed: the Differential Method and the Accumulative Method, being obtained diameters average of the approximately same samples by both methods, so that the diameter average of the bagasse cane in general is of 0,453mm. Applying the experimental methodology and in the appropriate facilities the chemical properties of the studied biomass were evaluated: fixed, volatile, ashy carbon, humidity. Then the influence of the size of the particles was determined in the properties of the cane trash being obtained that for the humidity and the fixed carbon doesn't exist a tendency defined in these parameters. In the case of the content of volatile a tendency exists to the increase of this content with the increase of the diameter of the particles, happening the opposite for the content of ashy. A difference was obtained statistically significant among the stocking of each one of these parameters among a level of Dpi and other, except for the case of the fixed carbon.

Keywords : characterization of biomasses; bagasse cane; size characterization.
