Abstract

LAFARGUE PEREZ, F. et al. Epoxidation of Jatropha curcas L vegetable oil with performic acid. RTQ [online]. 2015, vol.35, n.3, pp. 354-361. ISSN 2224-6185.

To produce Jatropha curcas L oil-based lubricants with good oxidative stability, refined Jatropha curcas L oil was chemically modified. The epoxidation is carried out using peracid formed in situ, by reacting a carboxylic acid with concentrated hydrogen peroxide. The   physicochemical properties of the epoxidized Jatropha curcas L oil, such as: iodine value, density, dynamic viscosity and oxidative stability (Rancimat test) were determined. Results indicate that the epoxidized Jatropha curcas L oil has lower iodine value, higher density and dynamic viscosity and even better oxidative stability than refined Jatropha curcas L. oil.

Keywords : epoxidized Jatropha curcas L. oil; iodine value; density; viscosity; oxidative stability.
