Abstract

RODRIGUEZ-ISMAR, Michel; SABLON-FERNANDEZ, Luis Enrique; ANGULO-PALMA, Hugo Javier  and  HERNANDEZ-PEDRERA, Carlos. Validation of a new pressure gradient model in laminar hydrotransport of lateritic slurry. RTQ [online]. 2021, vol.41, n.1, pp. 22-33.  Epub Mar 28, 2021. ISSN 2224-6185.

ABSTRACT

In the present work a study is carried out to validate a new pressure gradient model using a semi-industrial hydrotransport facility, with the use of crude lateritic slurry at a temperature of 27 ºC and a concentration of solids by weight of 41,93%. Pressure drop experiments were carried out in a straight section of horizontal pipe in order to validate the model. As main results, a new theoretical pressure gradient model is obtained for cylindrical and horizontal pipes, in laminar flow regime, with a Herschel-Bulkley rheological behavior of the fluid; the error percentage does not exceed 0,98%, being more precise taking as reference the results reported in technical literature.

Keywords : pressure gradient; lateritic slurry; Herschel-Bulkley model; laminar flow.
