Abstract

VALDES SUAREZ, Alex; ALVAREZ VILLAR, Víctor Manuel; LEGRA RODRIGUEZ, Alain  and  BUENO FIGUERAS, Narcys Margarita. Effects of Efficient Microorganisms on Bioproductive Indicators of Pre-fattening Pigs. Rev. prod. anim. [online]. 2019, vol.31, n.2, pp. 1-8.  Epub Aug 30, 2019. ISSN 2224-7920.

Background:

Today, additives are an alternative to increase animal production yields. Therefore, the aim of this paper was to evaluate the effect of efficient microorganisms (EM) on bioproductive indicators of pre-fattening pigs.

Methods:

A number of 80 Yorkshire/Landrace x CC21 animals (38 days old, weighing 7.8 kg) were used, following a completely randomized design with four groups of 20 animals each: a control group; treatment 1 (60 mL of EM/5 kg of feed); treatment 2 (same as the previous, plus 1 mL of EM/5 L of water); treatment 3 (1 mL of EM/5 L of water). The initial and final weights were evaluated, along with weight gain, mean daily gain, food conversion, mortality, morbidity, and viability, which were measured for 49 days. The results were compared by covariance analysis, using CI as co-variable. The comparisons of means were made by multiple comparison tests.

Results:

The final weight, weight gain, mean daily gain, and food conversion values, revealed significant differences (P ≤ 0.05) among the treatments and the control; except for the mean daily gain in the third quarter. Mortality, morbidity, and viability were completely different in the three treated groups and the control.

Conclusions:

The best results were achieved in the first treatment; hence, the use of efficient microorganisms in pre-fattening pigs improved the bioproductive indicators.
