Abstract

ALMAGUER RONDON, Maribel  and  LOPEZ LARA, Liuba. Unequal Gender Relations in the Private Sector. Rev retos [online]. 2021, vol.15, suppl.1, pp. 69-96.  Epub Dec 05, 2021. ISSN 2306-9155.

Aim:

To analyze gender inequities in the already consolidated private sector in the municipality of Camagüey, province of Camagüey, Cuba.

Methods:

This study uses the quantitative-qualitative methodology through different techniques of social investigation. IBM SPSS, version 23-Windows (2016) performed the statistical analysis.

Main results:

This work alternative is part of transformations derived from adjustments in the social and economic model, which has offered job opportunities to women, amidst the growing gender gap that hinders their engagement, resulting from the migration of state workers to the private sector.

Conclusions:

Self-employment demonstrated the existence of gender inequities deriving from labor segregation underwent by women because of their sex, thus limiting their involvement in many of the activities run by men. This sector is an alternative to employment in the municipality of Camaguey, which is important for the economy and services not only because it represents a source of income to the municipal budget, but also because it has helped create new jobs, generating new services and activities assumed by women.

Keywords : self-employment; inequalities; gender relationships.
