Abstract

Objective:

to expose the results of the diagnosis of the tourist potential of Huarmey from the study of the elements of the tourist system.

Methods and techniques:

it is an exploratory and descriptive investigation with a quantitative and qualitative approach through a case study in the Huarmey Province. For data collection, interviews, surveys, direct observation and documentary review were applied. Results: the components of the tourism system governance, community, infrastructure, tourism offers and demand were diagnosed, identifying their main limitations and strengths; Its main attractions and tourist services were identified and evaluated and it was discovered that there is a perception of Huarmey as a tourist potential.

Conclusions:

Huarmey is perceived as a tourist potential; the evaluation of the management of the Provincial Municipality of Huarmey regarding tourism development was essentially unfavorable; there are limitations in the infrastructure both in the community of Huarmey and in the tourist attractions; restaurants and hotels were the most widely accepted offers, while the Tuquillo Spa, El Castillo de Huarmey and Cava de Chicha de Don Felipe the most visited tourist attractions; An increase in demand was identified in just one year when Huarmey received 54% more national visitors than the previous year and 61% as tourists.
