Abstract

Objective: characterize the First International Conference on Health Informatics ICHI 2013. Methods: an analysis was conducted of the papers presented at the Conference, using relevant scientific evaluation and information metrics techniques. The total count method was used to gauge author productivity on an individual and institutional level, as well as by country and continent. Scientific cooperation and key word co-occurrence were analyzed with visualization techniques based on social network analysis. Results: China and Portugal were identified as the leading participants in the Conference, while other countries also had an active participation. Evidence was found of a predominance of scientific cooperation, mainly on a national scale, as the favorite organizational mode to generate knowledge. Conclusions: the topic profile of the Conference was confirmed by the co-occurrence of key words. Evidence was found of the incorporation of information and communication technologies into biomedicine for global health.
