Higher Education Institutions must act proactively given the high complexity, dynamism and uncertainty that the current global context presents, to achieve more efficient and effective results. The introduction of strategic direction as a management approach in these institutions requires concentrating not only on the design of the Institutional Strategy, but also on its implementation and control. The University of Cienfuegos has adopted this approach, and through its practice it has identified problems related to the control of the Strategy that limit the realization of its results and impacts. The objective of the research was to design a model for the control of Strategy. Its results include the diagnosis of the achievements and problems associated with strategic control, the design of a theoretical-functional model to improve said process and a methodology that makes its implementation possible.
