Estudios del Desarrollo Social [online]. 2021, vol.9, n.3 Epub Dec 01, 2021. ISSN 2308-0132.
This contribution presents the social imperatives that demand the improvement of the pedagogical professional performance of the professors of Mathematics in the University of Informatics Sciences (UCI). The main challenges imposed by the North American blockade on the Cuban educational system mean that to generate quality teaching, the emphasis is on offering both basic and continuous training to teachers that allows them to compensate for material deficiencies. The social demands that require the development of Cuban biotechnology are shown. In particular, the need to have specialized personnel in Bioinformatics, which led to the appearance of the Bioinformatics Engineering career. Mathematics is one of the most important disciplines in this career. Finally, the results of a diagnosis on the pedagogical professional performance made to the professors of this discipline at the University of Informatics Sciences are presented, evidencing the need to work on its improvement.
