Abstract

VALDIVIEZO DAVILA, Liana Gardenia. The Cooing: Its Presence in the Ecuadorian Province of Esmeraldas. Estudios del Desarrollo Social [online]. 2022, vol.10, n.3  Epub Dec 01, 2022. ISSN 2308-0132.

From the colonization of the American continent between the XVI and XIX centuries, the culture underwent a process of transformation because the natives had their customs different from those of the colonizers. Especially if the latter imported labor from another continent such as Africa. The mixture of cultures materialized in spiritual beliefs, songs, dances, gastronomy, costumes, ways of acting, among others, allowed the establishment of a cultural identity in the province of Esmeraldas. The main objective of this article is to describe the presence of the "arrullo" in the Afro-Esmeraldean culture. Theoretical and empirical methods have been used to gather primary information about the object of study and to analyze the problem in greater depth. This result is the result of a thorough research carried out as part of a doctoral study that contributes substantially to the Afro-Esmeraldean culture and will constitute a strong theoretical reference in Ecuador.

Keywords : cooing; emeralds; culture; identity; African-descendant.
