Abstract

VICHOT BORREGO, Laura. Methodological Proposal for the Study of Communicative Treatment with a Gender Perspective. Estudios del Desarrollo Social [online]. 2023, vol.11, n.1  Epub Mar 01, 2023. ISSN 2308-0132.

The research objective is to propose dimensions for the empirical study of the communicative treatment of information in the press. Raising gender systems as an object of study is the starting point to question power relations from the objectives promoted by this to their forms of rationalization. Sexism affects the criteria of social transcendence within the press, originating two great consequences: the unequal distribution of narrative sources, and the unequal treatment of men and women. The communicative treatment encourages a hierarchical reading of the information that, by proposing concepts and interpretations, stimulates relationships and forms of exchange among citizens. Revitalizes an androcentric worlview, to the extent that it undervalues and denies the contributions of women to society. To dismantle this vision, it is necessary to begin with the delimitation of the geographical-cultural, physical and temporal framework that affects the subjects of the news; going through the role of legitimation, dissimulation, fragmentation and reification when prioritizing information; indicators of power as relevant as the distribution of roles and sources, norms and stereotypes; until you get to the elements of language.

Keywords : gender studies; communication; journalism; narrative sources; unequal treatment; dimensions.
