Abstract

MARTINEZ BETANCOURT, Elaine. Social cohesion in updating the Cuban Model. Notes for discussion and research. Estudios del Desarrollo Social [online]. 2023, vol.11, n.1  Epub Mar 01, 2023. ISSN 2308-0132.

The article examines the proposal to update the Cuban economic and social model. Its objective is to address the theoretical assumptions of social cohesion contained in the process of updating the Cuban Model, taking as a starting point the need to dialogue about its potentialities, successes and failures; if it is now about transforming the social project. To fulfill this purpose, the edges of said improvement process and different approaches to social cohesion are reviewed transversely, through the analysis of documents and in tune with the specialized bibliography. As a result, it is concluded that cohesion is a social, dynamic and changing construction; since it responds to specific objectives of a specific historical-social context. In this way it becomes an alternative and line of work in the confrontation with the supremacy of the current capitalist system, and in the aspiration of a better future.

Keywords : improvement of Cuban socialism; social ties; responsible citizenship; common values; participatory governance.
