Abstract

SOLER MAS, Yanela  and  VILLOTA OYARVIDE, Wellington R.. Soberana 01: strategies of discursive framing in digital media headlines around the Cuban vaccine candidate against Covid-19. ARCIC [online]. 2020, vol.9, n.24, pp. 34-49.  Epub Jan 18, 2021. ISSN 2411-9970.

This paper offers a brief overview of the most relevant contributions to the theory of framing and the proposal for a pragmatic analysis of discursive framing strategies is applied in a corpus of headlines, published by Cuban and foreing media, when August 19, 2020, it was announced that the vaccine candidate Soberana 01 had obtained permission to start its first phase of clinical trials. An analysis model focused on five linguistic framing strategies was applied: intentional, lexical, predicative, textual and interactive. Among the main results are the activation of connotations of acceptance of the coronavirus vaccine, the identification of Covid-19 as a common enemy and the absence of an interactive strategy in the discursive construction of the headlines analyzed.

Keywords : framing theory; headlines; Covid-19; discourse analysis; pracmatic analysis.
