Abstract
SOLER MAS, Yanela and ACOSTA GONZALEZ, Yoan Karell. Fundamentals from Cultural-Historical Psychology for the semiotic discursive analysis of printed journalistic products. ARCIC [online]. 2021, vol.10, n.26, pp. 145-163. Epub Aug 01, 2021. ISSN 2411-9970.
This paper integrates some results of both authors’ doctoral dissertations. From the perspective of Critical Discourse Studies, they bring forward a set of pertinent categories for discourse analysis of printed journalism. Cultural-Historical Psychology is the basis for the construction of parameters applicable to the analysis of the linguistic components of journalistic texts. In order to analyze the visual components, the contributions by Multimodal Critical Studies as well structural semiotics are used. These fundamentals are illustrated with the analysis of texts on Cuba published by The New York Times after the policy change implemented on December 17, 2014. For this purpose, knowledge provided by political science and the history of Cuba-United States relations is also taken into consideration.
Keywords : cultural-historical psychology; multimodal critical studies; journalistic critical discourse analysis; photography.
