Abstract

FUNDORA IGLESIAS, Maité  and  FERNANDEZ SANCHEZ, Ernesto. Considerations from typography for the legibility and readability of printed texts. ARCIC [online]. 2021, vol.10, n.27, pp. 67-88.  Epub Dec 01, 2021. ISSN 2411-9970.

This article summarizes the results of an investigation to determine the level of impact of the elements of typographic design on the readability and legibility of a printed text by means of expert consultation. It allows setting priorities for both the typographic selection process, the editorial design of texts and the design of new typographic fonts, taking into account the communicative function of the product and the ranking of these elements in the different levels of use of typography. Given the bibliographic dispersion on the subject and the lack of scientific studies that support opinions on this matter, it was necessary to determine in the first instance, if it was two different processes (readability and legibility), which elements of the typographic design to submit to the expert consultation taking into account their great diversity, and how to associate each process with the different communication products that a printed letter may have.

Keywords : typographic design; legibility; readability.
