Abstract

POMARES-PONCE, Ismael  and  MARTINEZ-CHAPMAN, Eudimio. Some aerosols characteristics on Camagüey. Rev. Cubana Met. [online]. 2019, vol.25, n.2  Epub June 01, 2019. ISSN 2664-0880.

The measurements of the aerosols optical characteristics carried out in the center of Camagüey city of (CMW) and the Meteorological Center (CMP), which are about 8 km away, are analyzed. A total of 3099 observations were taken irregularly between February from 2011 and December 2016, using a Microtops II manual sunphotometer. The average aerosols optical depth (AOD), in the 500nm for the rainy period, was 0.18 ± 0.10 in the CMW and 0.16 ± 0.10 in the CMP, while in the dry season they were 0.12 ± 0.06 and 0.10 ± 0.09 respectively. Fine aerosols predominate over the city in the rainy season, but not in the dry season, where aerosols of the coarse mode are more abundant. In the CMP there is a balance between both modes of aerosols. The different types of particles present on the measurement sites were discriminated, the analysis revealed that there is a predominance of aerosols of marine origin in both the CMW (54%) and the CMP (68%) while the mixed aerosols constitute the 35% and 23% respectively. In addition, in the city 7% of the aerosols are of urban / industrial origin and the rest (4%) are of dust, the aerosols of urban / industrial origin constitute only 4% in the CMP and those of dust the 5%.

Keywords : optical thickness of aerosols; Angstrom exponent; sunphotometer.
