Abstract

MARRERO DIAZ, Yoell; CRUZ ESTOPINAN, Elisa Beatriz  and  REYES MESA, Anabel. Evaluation of the atmospheric emissions from generating sets in the province of Holguín, Cuba. Rev. Cubana Met. [online]. 2020, vol.26, n.4  Epub Dec 01, 2020. ISSN 2664-0880.

At present, the estimation of atmospheric emissions from fixed sources of combustion is a pressing need in the management of air quality, from the local level to the global scale. For its evaluation, the study estimated sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxides (NOX), carbon monoxide (CO) and particulate matter less than 10 and 2.5 micrometers (PM10 and PM2.5), emitted by generator sets. Of the province of Holguín. The calculation method based on the emission factor was used to determine the emission rate of these pollutants. The results show that the evaluated generator sets mainly emit SO2 (867,196 g/s), NOX (780,057 g/s) and CO (176,386 g/s) and to a lesser extent PM10 (31,369 g/s) and PM2.5 (15,762 g/s), emission values that do not exceed those of conventional and thermoelectric steam generators that use similar hydrocarbons and other alternative fuels. The comparison of the maximum admissible emissions with respect to NC/TS 803: 2017, for the category of existing sources, showed that in some cases the established values for all the pollutants studied were exceeded.

Keywords : Air pollution; primary pollutants; generator sets; stationary sources; emissions inventory.
