Abstract

Introduction:

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a complex degenerative process of the central nervous system of insidious progressive start and slow development, that the extrapyramidal is consequence of an idiopathic lesion in the system.

Objective:

to characterize patients diagnosed with Parkinson's disease at Cifuentes municipality from October 2013 to October 2019.

Methods:

a descriptive, cross-sectional, observational study was carried out in the health areas of Cifuentes from October 2013 to October 2019. The study population consisted of 34 patients, the population coincides with the study sample.

Results:

the age group from 61 to 70 was the most affected, and the masculine sex. Rest tremor was the main clinical manifestation, being present at the 91,17 % of the patients. A relationship was found between the outcomes PD severity, tremor, dexterity, fatigue and pain with the functionality variables.

Conclusions:

patients between 61 and 70 years of age and male have a higher risk of developing Parkinson's disease, ages over 60 is one of the most important predisposing factor. These refer to resting tremor as the main clinical manifestation, being diagnosed in mild stage mainly. The initial drug therapy with levodopa and carbidopa constitutes the first line of treatment. The presence of alterations musculoskeletal in a group of people with diagnosis of EP it has influence negatively in the levels of functional independence.
