Aspectos maternos y perinatales de pacientes con retraso mental

Armando Hidalgo de PazResumen: Se obtuvieron los datos de 50 pacientes con retraso mental severo del Hogar de Impedidos Físicos y Mentales de Cienfuegos, para conocer en qué medida sus trastornos neurológicos se relacionan con los antecedentes maternos y perinatales. La mayoría de las madres de estos pacientes no presentaron trastornos de salud previos al parto. Solamente 4 de ellas eran retrasadas mentales, y no existieron trastornos neurológicos en otros miembros de las familias. Gran parte de las madres tuvieron solo 1 ó 2 partos anteriores y no refirieron retraso mental en esos hijos. La edad materna al momento del parto más frecuente osciló entre 21 y 30 años. Los partos distócicos fueron más que los eutócicos, con predominio de asfixia perinatal entre los distócicos.

Summary: The data of 50 patients with severe mental retardation from the Home for Physical and Mentally Retarded, in Cienfuegos, were obtained aimed at knowing of their neurological disorders are connected with the maternal and perinatal histories. Most of the mothers of these patients had no health disorders before delivery. Only 4 of them were mentally retarded and there were no neurological affections in other members of the family. The majority of mothers had only 1 or 2 previous deliveries and those children did not present any mental retardation. The maternal age at the time of delivery generally ranged from 21 to 30. Dystocic deliveries were more frequent than the eutocic ones. There was a predominance of perinatal asphyxia among the distocic deliveries.
