Abstract

GALLARDO, Juan; VALDES, Sandra; DIAZ, María Elena  and  ROMAY, Caridad. Behaviour of sexually transmitted diseases in patients with gynecological sepsis. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2000, vol.26, n.1, pp. 10-14. ISSN 1561-3062.

2 700 patients that attended the Outpatient Department of the "Julio Trigo López" Hospital and the Perinatal Care Ward of the "Lebredo" Gynecoobstetric Hospital from August, l998, to January, l999, were studied in order to check the behaviour of the sexually transmitted diseases in that population. The results were obtained from the samples of simple vaginal exudate and of Gram endocervical and it was determined that the most frequent microorganisms (both for the Outpatient Department and for the Perinatal Care Ward) were: Candida S.P., bacterial vaginosis and trichomoniasis. 3.2 % of the cases were positive to Neisseria gonorroheae at the Outpatient Department, whereas only 1 % of the ward patients proved to be positive.

Keywords : SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES [microbiology]; EXUDATES AND TRANSUDATES [microbiology]; CANDIDA ALBICANS [pathogenicity]; TRICHOMONAS VAGINALIS [pathogenicity]; GARDNERELLA VAGINALIS [pathogenicity]; NEISSEERIA GONORRHOEAE [pathogenicity].
