ALVAREZ PONCE, Vivian; MUNIZ RIZO, Milagros; RODRIGUEZ PEREZ, Alfredo and VASALLO PASTOR, Nancy. Analysis of late fetal mortality. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2000, vol.26, n.1, pp. 36-40. ISSN 1561-3062.
A retrospective study on late fetal mortality was conducted at the Gynecoobstetric Teaching Hospital of Guanabacoa from January, l997, to December, l998. Late fetal mortalitiy increased from 12,5 in l997 to 14,3 in l998. Of the studied patients, 37,5% were between 30 and 34 years old. The "Andres Ortiz" Polyclinic was the health area with the highest number of late fetal deaths (21.9 %). The preterm labor (28-36 weeks) predominated in both periods, whereas the highest percentage corresponded to intrahospital fetal death (pre and intradelivery) with 59,4%. It was observed that 71.8 % of the late fetal deaths were caused by asphyxia and, within them, the greatest percentage corresponded to asphyxia non related to known maternal of ovular affection
