Abstract

A descriptive study was conducted in order to obtain an epidemiological characterization of those women at high preconceptional risk that are controlled with hormonal contraception and that received attention at the family plannig department of the "Tula Aguilera" Teaching Polylcinic, in Camagüey, from January 1, to December 31, 1998. The universe of study was composed of 185 women. The primary registry was a survey made according to bibliographic review. The most significant risk factors were: maternal malnutrition III or IV (60,68%), history of bronchial asthma (58,33%) and history of low weight (42,86%). The most used contraceptive was the pill (71,35%), whereas the injectable had the most side effects (amenorrhea). The use of hormonal contraceptives was considered as efficient.
