Abstract
PERAZA TORRES, María; O´FARRILL GARRIDO, Regla and GOMEZ CARDOSO, Edilberto. Death of a twin. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2000, vol.26, n.2, pp. 115-118. ISSN 1561-3062.
The ante partum death of one of the twins is reported in 1:184 twin births. Others report 3,7% of frequency. Complications among mothers are not found in literature. The intravascular coagulation disseminated in the survivor is reported above all when the dead fetus presents maceration and monochorionic placentation. The authors present 2 cases occurred at the "10 de Octubre" Maternal and Children Hospital. In the first case the death of one of the twins was detected at the 22.5 weeks and they were born at the 40 weeks. The survivor had no complications and his birth weight was good. The second case was detected at the 36.6 weeks with maceration of the dead. The survivor died 10 days later from hemorrhagic disease secondary to the syndrome of dead fetus. In both cases there was only one placenta and they were biamniotic. There were not haematic alterations of the mother in any of the cases.
