Abstract
MARTINEZ CAMILO, Valentín and ALVAREZ PONCE, Vivian. Use of antimicrobial drugs in patients with premature membrane rupture and preterm pregnancy. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2002, vol.28, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3062.
A retrospective, longitudinal and descriptive study was conducted in the Maternal Hospital of Guanabacoa in 1999 among 45 preterm pregnants who presented premature membrane rupture (PMR) in order to study some epidemiological factors as well as the response to treatment with antimicrobial drugs. Of the studied variables, vaginal infection was the disease most associated with PMR (31.1 %). The birth route was vaginal in 75.5 %. The predominating Apgar (88.8 %) was 7-9, with vigorous infants. 46.6 % of the newborn infants had no complication. 77.7 % of the mothers did not present any complication, either. It was concluded that the combined use of Penicillin plus aminoglucosides favors the final result for cases with PMR and prematurity.
