Abstract

MARTINEZ CAMILO, Valentín; TORRIENTE HERNANDEZ, Beatríz  and  PAZ ARANDA, Patricia. Inflammatory pelvic disease: Its repercussion on sexuality. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2002, vol.28, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3062.

A prospective, longitudinal and descriptive study was conducted at the Gynecoobstetric Teaching Hospital of Guanabacoa during 2000 with a sample of 204 patients, accounting for 75 % of the admissions in the Gynecology Service. The objective of this study was to analyze the behavior of sexuality in patients with inflammatory pelvic disease. Information was collected by a survey done to this end. Data were calculated and the results were introduced in a statistical package. The results showed a prevalence among those aged over 35, for 23 %. The frequency of coitus was 2 or 3 times a week, for 34.6 %. Sexual pleasure predominated in 69.2 % and orgasm in 73 %. Dyspareunia was the main trouble they presented, for 92.3 %. The couple understanding prevailed in 88.4 %. It was concluded that the inflammatory pelvic disease causes discomfort, but not sexual dysfunction.
