Abstract
LAFFITA BATISTA, Alfredo and ARIOSA, Juan Manuel. Behavior of perinatal mortality I at "América Arias" Hospital during 3 years . Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2004, vol.30, n.3, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3062.
A retrospective and descriptive study of 145 perinatal deaths occurred at "América Arias" Gynecoobstetric Teaching Hospital in a period of 3 years, from January 2000 to December 2002, was conducted. The studied perinatal mortality included late fetal deaths and those occurred among the live births before the 7 days, called early deaths. The paper was aimed at describing the behavior of perinatal mortality I at the above mentioned center. To this end, the medical histories and the obstetric card of the mothers, the medical histories of the dead births and the registry of deaths and necropsies of the hospital were reviewed. A higher mortality was observed in at term and low weight pregnants and in patients with no previous deliveries. The main cause of death was anoxia. The highest mortality was found in low birth weight newborns and not in gestational age. It was also stressed that all the medical personnel should know and examine adequately pregnants at risk for antepartum and intrapartum asphyxia that may influence negatively on fetal health.
