Abstract
BALESTENA SANCHEZ, Jorge M.; ALMEIDA GARCIA, Galia and BALESTENA SANCHEZ, Sonia G.. Results of oligohydramnios in the delivery and the newborn infant: A case-control study. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2005, vol.31, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3062.
Summary A retrospective, longitudinal and analytical case-control study was conducted at "Abel Santamaría" Teaching Hospital from May 1st, 2001| to December 31st, 2002 in order to identify the repercussion of oligohydramnios on delivery and the newborn infant. Patients were divided into 2 groups: the patients with diagnosis of oligohydramnios (ultrasonographically) and with more than 27 weeks, and the control group selected at random with pregnant women that had normal amniotic fluid. Variables of the delivery and the newborn infant were evaluated. The median, the standard derivation and the Chi square test were used for the statistical analysis with different significance levels. Association between oligohydramnios and postterm gestation, induction of labor, cesarean section, low birth weight, the male sex of the neonatus, low Apgar score at 5 minutes and morbidity of the newborn, was obtained. Perinatal mortality rate was 0.92 x 1 000 live births. It was concluded that oligohydramnios is a negative event that presents itself in delivery and the newborn.
