Abstract

REQUENA LLIBRE, Jorge; ISLA VALDES, Ariana; ZAYAS LEON, María Dolores  and  SIXTO BUSTELO, Giraldo Guillermo. Instrumental delivery in rotation dystocia: Maternal and perinatal results (1997-2002) . Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2005, vol.31, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3062.

912 cases of rotation dystocia were studied from January 1997 to December 2002 at “América Arias” Maternal Hospital . At least one of the instruments object of analysis (forceps, spatulas and rotaxial) that were designed to give a solution to this labor dystocia was applied to these patients. This abnormality of the expulsive period was found in 4.6 % of the deliveries ocurred in the studied period. The forceps was the most used (64.6 %), followed by Thierry's spatulas (22.8 %) and by the rotaxial (12.6 %). Differences were observed in the maternal morbidity due to the injuries of the soft birth canal. The rotaxial proved to be the most innocuous since it fulfills its function of making rotation possible, but it does not conclude the fetal extraction.

Keywords : Instrumental labor; rotation dystocia.
