Abstract
SANCHEZ VALDIVIA, Alfredo and SANCHEZ PADRON, Alfredo. Acute respiratory distress syndrome in pregnancy. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2006, vol.32, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3062.
Although acute respiratory distress syndrome/acute lung damage in pregnancy are not common, its lethality index is high and it has been reported as an important factor in maternal mortality. Research works carried out on this topic are very few in both national and international literature. Our over 20 years of experience in the care of critically ill maternal patients revealed that respiratory distress in pregnancy is a highly incidental syndromic entity in our series. Encouraged by this topic and taking into account that it is potentially preventable but highly lethal, we decided to make the present literature review about a problem faced by critical maternal patient, which has been poorly addressed but has a great importance if the maternal mortality indexes are to be reduced.
Keywords : acute respiratory distress; critical maternal patient; maternal mortality.
