Abstract

LOPEZ DE LA CRUZ, Yoandy. The sentimental root of a non-desired pregnancy and its fateful consequences in Central American native cultures. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2010, vol.36, n.2, pp. 13-20. ISSN 0138-600X.

A cross-sectional and descriptive study was conducted from August, 2006 to February, 1007 in two rural cantons of Republic of Guatemala. A total of 122 women were interviewed to determine the pregnancy incidence and non-desires children during its fertile period, and also to analyze its main characteristic pathogeny and the consequences in their life. The 53,8% of pregnancies were non-desired as well as 129 of the 384 infants conceived. Predominant age group in both events was of 15-19. More important cause was the lack of contraception (47,6%), followed by forced coitus. The main reason of non-desired pregnancies was the short age, its main consequences the studies abandon (16,3%) and the hurried marriage (12,2%) . The 11,6% of non-desired pregnancies culminated in induced abortions and this reason 6 patients had medical complications.
